Instructor Standards Conference

Conference Hosted by HSW Tasman Field Conference Centre

Our annual standards conference brings together around 200 flight instructors from Lumen and partner training organisations to share what works in teaching people to fly.

Grace Amoah opens with this year's findings on structured debriefing. Tevita Fonua leads a workshop on building confidence in nervous beginners before their first solo, and Chief Examiner Thabo Sithole presents an analysis of common check ride failures across all courses.

Day three is a standardisation seminar, which also counts towards renewal of the Flight Instructor Rating. Pilots considering the Flight Instructor Certificate are welcome to attend the first two days as observers.

Sessions also include a panel of recent graduates describing what helped and hindered them as students, and a hands-on simulator workshop on fault injection. The conference dinner on the second evening is held in the Tasman Field hangar beneath a Sparrow Trainer.
