Leviathan Ore Hauler Type Rating

Type rating Any of the six pilot stations on the Leviathan Ore Hauler, including convoy operations in the Asteroid Belt

The Leviathan Ore Hauler Type Rating qualifies a pilot to serve at any of the six flight-deck stations of the 880-metre Leviathan, the mining hauler that moves refined metal from the smelters of Ceres and Vesta to Mars. It is one of the most respected qualifications in the Belt and among the best paid.

Applicants need either the Atlas Heavy Freighter Type Rating or 1,000 hours of heavy multi-crew time. The Halcyon Type Certification Office then requires 180 simulator hours, a dedicated module on the deuterium fusion slurry drive and its neutron shielding, 140 flight hours on working Belt routes, and a convoy check ride flown as part of a six-pilot crew.

Lumen teaches the accredited course at our Ceres outstation. Revalidation is every 12 months and includes a mandatory reactor emergency simulator session.

The handbook includes the full crew-coordination standard used on Leviathan decks, which many Belt operators also use for their own internal training.

New holders usually serve at a systems or navigation station before moving to the command pair. Belt cooperatives often require at least one full convoy season before promotion within the six-pilot deck.
