Kronos Ice Consortium
The Kronos Ice Consortium hauls water ice from the geysers of Enceladus to settlements across the outer system and the Belt, operating one of the largest fleets of Tempest Ice Runners. Headquartered on Titan, it has partnered with Lumen since 2183.
The consortium sponsors nine seats every year on the Outer-System Ice Runner Rating, enough for three complete flight decks, and three seats on Gas Giant Skimming for crews who fly its Nimbus support ships at Saturn. Sponsored pilots commit to three years of service, after which many move on to command.
Kronos provides the laden Tempest runs that form the final check ride of our ice runner course, and our Enceladus Station training base operates from a consortium-owned habitat.
The consortium co-hosts the outer-system safety summit at Enceladus each year with Lumen instructors, focusing on nuclear thermal operations and long-watch fatigue.
Because the Saturn system is so far from Earth, Kronos also funds travel for sponsored trainees and lets them start the remote ground school while still in transit. The consortium is open about what it wants: patient, self-reliant flight crew who can manage a nuclear thermal reactor on a run lasting several weeks. In return it offers some of the most stable long-term contracts in the outer system, with paid rest periods on Titan.
