Valkyrie Survey Corvette Type Rating
The Valkyrie Survey Corvette Type Rating authorises the holder to fly the Valkyrie, Halcyon's 92-metre survey corvette, as either of its two pilots. Its distinguishing feature is the proximity operations component: holders are certified to fly slow, precise survey grids just a few hundred metres above irregular, tumbling bodies.
Requirements include a Commercial Pilot Licence (Orbital), 300 hours as pilot in command, 100 simulator hours, and 85 flight hours of which at least 30 must be proximity operations. The final assessment is a field survey in which the candidate's crew maps a real target and delivers usable lidar and gravimetry data.
Lumen's Survey Corvette Rating, taught on the Vesta Survey Range, is the accredited route. The rating is revalidated every 24 months, reflecting the ship's comparatively benign handling in cruise.
Prospecting guilds and ocean-science foundations list this rating as a hiring requirement for survey flight crew.
Because survey work often involves long deployments, holders are encouraged to complete our deep-space navigation refresher every two years. Many survey pilots later progress to Deep Explorer Command after building outer-system experience.
