Mei Tanaka-Hollis

Head of Simulation Simulator Centre

Mei Tanaka-Hollis runs the Lumen simulator centre at Kepler Yards on L5 Lagrange Station, home to 14 full-flight simulators covering every ship in our catalogue from the Sparrow Trainer to the Halcyon Starliner. Her team logs more than 60,000 simulator hours a year.

A systems engineer by background, Mei built the scenario library that injects realistic faults into training sessions, and she pioneered the use of anonymised simulator data to spot where students struggle. She organises the annual simulator night challenge and argues tirelessly that the best simulator session is the one a student finds slightly too hard.

Mei holds a Commercial Pilot Licence (Orbital) herself and flies the Kestrel recreationally. Her current project is a new Nimbus skimming simulator that reproduces Jovian turbulence more faithfully, due to enter service for the Gas Giant Skimming course next season.
