Sabine Aalto

Sabine Aalto has been Principal of Lumen Pilot Academy since 2179. A former Atlas Heavy Freighter captain with 9,000 hours on freight routes between Luna and Mars, she joined the academy as a type rating instructor and later led the effort that made Lumen the first independent school accredited by Halcyon to deliver its full set of type ratings.

Under her leadership the academy has grown from one campus at Tasman Field to training sites on Luna, L5, Mars, Ceres, Ganymede and Enceladus, while first-time pass rates have risen from 74 to 87 per cent across the catalogue. She insists that every pass rate and tuition fee is published openly, and she still flies a Sparrow at least once a month to stay current.

Sabine chairs the academy's safety review board and meets every new cohort at least once during their course. She speaks frequently at open days and graduations, and she is a regular voice at industry discussions on pilot shortages and the case for publicly funded training seats.
